Amazing Uses for a Basic Product :: Baking Soda
If you read my Scrumptious Snickerdoodle Cookies post, you read that I was out of Baking Soda the other day when I made the cookies and had to substitute ingredients. In my search for what I could substitute for baking soda in baking recipes (which is about triple the amount of baking soda to equal the amount of baking powder called for in the recipe — so the recipe calls for 1 tsp. (teaspoon) of baking soda, you can substitute 3 tsp. of baking powder instead).
In my search for this answer, I also came across some different uses for baking soda. These different uses include making your own cleaning products, which can save you money & be healthier than a store bought cleaner. Most of us know that you can place baking soda in your fridge to help neutralize odors (make sure you replace it at least every few months), but here are some other ways to use baking soda:
- Sprinkle on your carpet to neutralize odors. Leave it overnight & vacuum in the morning.
- Mix some with water and use it to clean & deodorize stovetops, refrigerators, etc.
- You can use the powder to scrub tile & metal surfaces without scratching them.
- Sprinkle it on a grease fire to put out the flame.
- Relieve a sunburn with a paste made of baking soda and water.
There are several (hundreds) of uses for baking soda. Needless to say, I went to the grocery store and bought some baking soda. What are some of the different ways you use baking soda?

These are great! Have you blogged 1,000,000 uses of WD-40? I love it so much I give out the WD-40 pens for Christmas every year. It’s like a $2 handyman in pocket. Amazing.
