The Librarian Writes
Miss Boo is our lil’ librarian. She loves reading books & often “reads” them by herself. She does not limit her selection to the lower shelves of our bookcase (the kid books), but also prefers selections from mine & my husband’s shelves. Some of her favorite books are actually my graphic & web design books. She particularly likes one on Adobe Flash & one on different color combinations.
We have started a nighttime routine of reading her a book before bed (my husband is usually the narrator). Well Miss Smartypants has tried for several nights now to get him to read her Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte because it is a thick book & would take a while to read to her.
Today, the reader became an author. Together we wrote a book for Bugsby’s adventures in space (V-Tech’s Bugsby Reading System). Right now you can go to V-Tech’s website and create your own story with your child (or maybe your child is old enough to create the story on their own) and win prizes!
Miss Boo helped me with the story by pointing out where to place some different characters and objects. The dialogue was a mixture of what she says & my own interpretation (mostly my interpretation). Miss Cakes watched us wondering what we were doing. There’s a “Bugsby Writing Guide” to help young authors along the way, but I actually found it helping me out!
Miss Boo’s favorite part was then previewing the story. Even Miss Cakes got in on this part, trying to repeat what was said when you clicked on items with the Bugsby cursor. She was getting very excited and very loud! When the story was over, Miss Boo became upset and wanted to read through it again.
Finally, I was able to submit the story. You then have a chance to name your story. Miss Boo wasn’t much help on this, so since I like to combine words, I chose Moonscapade. However at the last second, before I hit submit, Miss Boo decided to add her own twist to the name. I didn’t notice this until I was getting the link to our story to post here, but she hit the 9 key at the end of the name.
So please enjoy our story, Moonscapade9.
